I had the opportunity recently to chat with Boyd Pelley about the creation of Churchteams and how it can help ministries save both time and money. Here is that conversation:
What was the impetus in creating Churchteams?
We started in fall, 1999 out of a passion to shepherd well the process of making disciples and building teams. I was an Associate pastor with a strong discipleship background and felt we needed a software built around that core commission rather than just the various admin. functions of ministry build community that is essential for spiritual recovery and discipleship.
How does it help churches with small group administration and overall church management?
Small groups: We help people connect through your website, leaders communicate through a push-out email and staff to care and coach through weekly communication and leading edge analytic reports.
Church management: Membership, assimilation, reporting / feedback on strategy, secure check-in and contributions.
As church budgets are impacted by current economy, how is your solution/pricing helpful in reducing administrative expense?
We are a full church management system on the cloud priced about the same as a module for most competitors. Built for the Internet from the beginning, we leverage de-centralized access for greater impact on administrative processes. Being able to tweak systems and structure on the fly help churches stay focused on the primary task and where needs are most acute. This allows better and more effective use of staff time. We bundle this together as a single unit with no training or support fees which saves churches over traditional software business approaches.
Why did you decide to add online giving?
To better serve churches and gain essential data that will help pastors know the state of their flock. To help increase giving and good stewardship.
How can people learn more about Churchteams and the impact it could have on their ministry?
Join one of our webinars, by interacting with a co-founder you get a better feel for our vision, values and strategy. Secondly, it's the best way to see how our unique push-out notifications improve information flow.
About Boyd Pelley:
Boyd has a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Oklahoma and a master's degree of divinity from Golden Gate Seminary. From 1990 to 2008 he worked on 3 church staffs (Albuquerque, NM; Lincoln, NE; Arlington, TX) responsible for small groups, discipleship, administration, education and staff supervision. He has a bent for learning, for seeing problems and figuring out ways to do things better. In 1999 the Lord used a business book about the future influence of the Internet to inspire a dream for creating a distinctly different tool for helping churches support, perform and track their primary purposes. He and Pam have been married since 1986, live in Arlington, TX and have two college age children - one in the business school at the University of Texas, Austin and the other playing soccer for Tulsa University.
